Problema
A commercial construction company based in Sydney needed to install an On-Site Detention Tank (OSD Tank) to manage and control the flow of stormwater runoff as part of the upgrades happening at Cronulla High School.
The main challenges with this project were that the soil the OSD Tank was being installed in was sand, and the customer was having issues retaining the sand while they were excavating, the height of the OSD Tank, and the fact that the project was taking place in a heavily trafficked area near a busy road, all of which needed to be factored into the solution.
Solução
To solve the customer’s issues with retaining the sandy soil, we recommended using either our Steel or Aluminium shoring boxes. The customer chose to use our Large Aluminium Shoring Boxes, which are a great solution for use in the non-cohesive and unstable conditions sand creates.
We also recommended that the customer use our Arch Spreaders, so there was enough clearance for the height of the OSD Tank. These struts provide over 2.5-metres of under strut clearance, which gave the customer plenty of room to be able to pour the OSD Tank in-situ.
Due to the project’s location, safety was paramount, so properly rated and certified Edge Protection Systems, such as our Edge Safe Handrail System, Davit Arms, Ladder Safe Platforms, and Ladders, needed to be used throughout the entire excavation. Our Concrete T-Lok Barriers were also used to create a secure perimeter around the worksite, ensuring the safety of pedestrians and vehicles passing by.
This solution and the project overall were a great success and another example of Shore Hire’s comprehensive product portfolio in use. The customer was able to safely and successfully pour the OSD Tank while ensuring worker safety and protecting the site from vehicles and pedestrians.
