Problema
A demolition contractor contacted Shore Hire to help completely demolish a six-story building with neighbouring properties on either side close to the boundary and a pedestrian walkway at the front of the building.
This meant that the building needed to be demolished from the top down in a controlled manner. The client’s proposed methodology was to use two 5-tonne excavators on the roof and slowly break the concrete slabs, pushing the rubble into the fire escape stairs down to the ground floor.
However, the problem was that the building was not designed to withstand the weight of two 5-tonne excavators.
Solução
To solve this problem, we created a custom-designed ramp made from our Shore 400 Modular Prop sections and our Aluminium Tilt Props so that the excavators could travel down to the level below as each level of the building was being demolished. We only installed the ramp once, and the client relocated it to each level of the building as required.
We also back propped each floor of the building with Titan Props to ensure the structure did not collapse during the demolition works. Our team installed the Titan Props on all levels of the building at the same time, and the client dismantled them as they demolished each level.
As a result of our solution, the demolition was able to go ahead as planned and on time – the client was able to safely and effectively bring the building down, without damaging the neighbouring properties or the pedestrian walkway.
