Problem
Shore Hire was called up by a running water treatment plant to design and install a propping solution to support the dividing wall of an effluent tank.
Essentially, the client needed to drain, clean, and repair the sewage tanks at the plant, but they could only empty one side of the tank at a time. The problem was that this put too much pressure on the dividing wall between the tanks, which loaded the wall beyond its capacity.
Solution
To solve this problem, we recommended using our high-load bearing Shore Prop 200 Modular Props horizontally between the internal and external walls of the tank.
In order to install the props, our rigging team worked out of a man cage on one crane, while a second crane held the props horizontally so they could be installed.
We also needed to use all stainless-steel fixings with our props, because these could be left in the walls of the tanks once the props were removed.
To install the props, the client first had to lower the sewage level in the tanks to one metre. Once the props were in place, the tanks were refilled to their original levels. When the props were installed in both tanks, the client could fully empty one tank at a time, while leaving the other operational, clean it, and complete the necessary repairs, and then refill it before moving on to the next tank.
Shore Hire’s dedicated install team, engineering expertise, and innovative product range allowed this tricky application to be completed on schedule and get the effluent tanks fully operational again for the client and the local community.
