Home Blog Product Info Trench Sheets vs. Sheet Piles: What’s the Difference?

Hojas de zanja

While Trench Sheets and Sheet Piles might seem like the same product at first glance, there are some key differences between them that can impact an excavation.

Made from corrugated steel, Trench Sheets and Sheet Piles are driven into the ground to support the vertical faces of trenches and excavations.

They’re most commonly used in the ‘Sheet and Frame’ shoring method, where Trench Sheets and Sheet Piles are used to make continuous or overlapping walls inside an excavation.

The main difference between Trench Sheets and Sheet Piles is that our Sheet Piles actually interlock or clutch together, meaning that the piles can join and lock together to make a continuous, structurally sound, and watertight wall.

While our range of Trench Sheets overlap; they don’t completely clutch together, and while they still have a high strength-to-weight ratio, they are more suited to small to medium-depth excavations where watertightness is not required.

Sheet Piles can provide a stronger connection than Trench Sheets and are designed for large-depth excavations where high strength is required.

Another difference between Trench Sheets and Sheet Piles is how they’re installed. Trench Sheets can be installed using the Dig and Push, Slit Trench, or Pre-Drive applications, whereas Sheet Piles are usually only installed using the Pre-Driven method.
