In line with Shore Hire’s Values of continuous improvement and innovation, we were looking for a better and safer way of handling our concrete barriers, and after some consideration decided that the Kenco units were a great option for us.

Our concerns were that forklift tynes tend to chip and break the concrete surrounding the fork pockets on the barriers if forks or Manitou’s are used to manoeuvre them into position. The alternative has been to use swift lifts and chains, but the issue here is that you have to get up on the back of the truck to attach the swift lift to the corresponding pins in the barriers, which is an additional hazard in the transportation process. The Kenco concrete barrier lifter is designed specifically to lift barriers up to 5443kg, so they can easily cope with our largest 5.4m T-Lok barriers.

These units have an automatic method of activating, negating the need to get up on the truck’s tray, therefore complying with most large site requirements to stay off the tray of the truck. These units are for use on our own crane trucks or for hire to customers. It was opportune that when we started talks with Kenco, they were looking for an Australian agent and have appointed Shore Hire, so we can also now sell the units.
